For many, 2020 has been the year of decorating. Many keen homeowners have ripped out their kitchens and bathrooms and vowed to start from scratch, creating something adventurous, bold, and more ‘their style’.

However, many homeowners also struggle with motivation. They know they want a new kitchen or bathroom, but they don’t know exactly what they want. How do they do it on those shows, making every piece of every room feel like it’s on architectural digest?

To help you on your journey, whether a complete house renovation or bathroom and kitchen remodel, we’ve gathered together five of the hottest new trends for 2020.

1. Brass finishes

2020 is the year of brass, say goodbye to stainless style and copper, and hello to the luxurious look and feel of a brand new brass sink, shower head, or faucet - perfect for a modern kitchen or bathroom.

Tip: combine brass finishes with colors of green, blue, and turquoise for a modern, yet stunning backdrop.

2. Wallpaper… but not any old wallpaper

Before you go ahead and say wallpaper is so 2010, you may just want to hear us out. We’ve seen more and more homeowners opt for a bold, daring, or adventurous wallpaper, mainly using this to decorate their bathroom. Wallpaper is a fantastic way of showing off your style, not to mention turning heads and sparking conversation.

3. Open floor plans

Less so for the bathroom, but many homeowners are knocking down walls and undergoing general remodeling to create an open-planned kitchen and living space.

Opening up the kitchen often provides more light and allows it to feel more spacious, not to mention bringing the whole family together.

Tip: if you’ve got a large bathroom, consider placing the bathtub in the middle of the room. This creates a luxurious feel, dating back to the Victorian times.

4. Contrasting tiles

If you’re up for a spot of general remodeling, consider adding contrasting tiles to either your kitchen or bathroom. Contrasting tiles are bold, adding character to the room - this allows you to inject your personality, giving it that personal feel.

Tip: consider placing the tiles vertically instead of horizontally, this also creates a bold contrasting effect.

5. Wooden finishes

Finally, we have wooden finishes, bringing the outdoors in. If you’re looking for a more ‘stripped back look’, then handcrafted woods are the one for you. Ensure to contrast these with your worktops, bathroom, or kitchen, creating a unique, modern, and bold feel.

Tip: neutral wood works great with a freestanding bath, creating that spa-like experience we all dream of.
